Our Favorite Traditions for the Holiday Season

It's that time of year again. Thanksgiving is nearly upon us, meaning the holidays are in full swing!

The holiday season in Florida is full of unique experiences. We have a lot of sunshine and warm weather, so we can enjoy many outdoor activities. Many people here enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends by going to festivals or other community events that celebrate the holidays. We've rounded up some of our favorite traditions to help you get the most out of your Thanksgiving here in Cape Coral.

Turkey Trot

A 5K race was held in the fall that benefits the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year it takes place in Fort Lauderdale

The 5K course is open to walkers and runners, so it is excellent for families with children or grandparents who may not want to run but still want to participate in a family event together.

Friendsgiving

Friendsgiving is a way to get together with your friends to celebrate the holiday season. What exactly is it? It's exactly what it sounds like: a "Thanksgiving" dinner with your friends. Friendsgiving allows you to spend time with your "chosen" family before everyone heads off to do their own thing.

Thanksgiving Day Parade

On Thanksgiving Day, we love to watch Macy's parade to see the floats, balloons, and marching bands. It's always fun to watch the giant inflatable characters float around in the sky above New York City and hear all the musical performances. The parade airs on NBC each year—and it kicks off at 9 a.m. or 10 a.m., depending on where you live! And the dog show afterward is always so cute!

Feeding the Homeless

If you're looking for ways to give back this season to the unhoused community, you and your family can sign up for some time at a local food kitchen. Many organizations organize events throughout the holiday season, so there’s likely one on a day that works for you.

Many stores, businesses, and schools also have options for donating more tangible things. Donate food, money, or clothes directly to shelters in need of support during Thanksgiving time (and beyond).

Visit Premier Auto Service

Visiting your local auto shop may not be a common tradition, but it’s when you should start! Before you go on your way to grandma’s house, come see us at Premier Auto Service. We want to ensure your vehicle is in running condition before the holidays begin to fill up your to-do list.
